Full Developmental Edit

A comprehensive review of your manuscript focusing on:

  • Overall strengths/weaknesses

  • Point-of-view, head-hopping

  • Perspective balance

  • Tense usage

  • Plot, subplots, and plot holes

  • Character development and consistency

  • Dialogue structure

  • Story structure

  • Overall flow

  • Timelines

  • Created worlds, cultures, religions, magic systems, etc.

The end results are comments and questions left directly in the manuscript draft so you know exactly what I’m addressing as well as a thorough editorial letter that will go into more detail on topics, provide examples of potential fixes, and offer suggestions to connect dots or flesh out areas. You also get a one-hour post-editing discussion to go over anything or discuss your ideas.

One round or two. Do you want another review after you’ve gone through my commentary, questions, and suggested changes? Submitting for another full round of editing allows for the opportunity to edit any changes you’ve made and how they mesh with the story. If a second look is agreed upon while developing the initial contract, the second edit is discounted.

COST:  Starts at $0.024/word USD

Manuscript Evaluation

A high-level overview of your manuscript. While less detailed than a developmental edit, this still covers everything a developmental edit covers, but there are fewer and less specific notes and questions left in the draft while the editorial letter will be less detailed.

One round or two. Same as above.

COST:  Starts at $0.018/word USD

Partial Manuscript Evaluation

This service will take 10,000 words of a manuscript and go through everything a manuscript evaluation would to the extent possible. With manuscript comments explaining key changes and suggestions, it allows you to learn some of the considerations to look for as you take the information and proceed to re-evaluate the rest of the manuscript on your own.

However, given this is for only part of a manuscript, things like plot, plot holes, character development, and a detailed review/consistency check of world building are not possible as these extend the length of the story.

COST:  Flat rate of $250.00 USD

** DE/ME minimum project cost:  $250.00 USD

I recommend one of these services for new authors and those stories with complex plots, new worlds/cultures/systems, and/or multiple point-of-views.

Full Line/Copy Edit

A combined line/copy editing service that will address:

  • Technical aspects such as: punctuation, grammar, spelling

  • Consistency

  • Tightening and cleaning up the writing; dialogue and dialogue tags; awkward phrasing; repetition; small instances of telling verse showing, etc.

  • If relevant, an agreed upon level of fact-checking.

A style sheet will be created. This is an important document to share with a proofreader or to keep for later stories in the same series. It provides a record of language used, technical style preferences, story timeline, chapter summaries, and character and location notes. You also get a one-hour post-editing discussion to go over anything or discuss your ideas.

Two rounds are standard for the line/copyediting due to the changes made at this level and it being one of the final steps before completion.

COST:  Starts at $0.018/word USD

Partial Line/Copy Edit

This service will take 10,000 words of a manuscript and go through everything a full line/copy edit would. With manuscript comments explaining key changes and suggestions, it allows you to learn some of the considerations to look for as you take the information and proceed to re-evaluate the rest of the manuscript on your own.

COST:  Flat rate of $200.00 USD

** L/CE minimum project cost:  $200.00 USD

I recommend one of these services for all self-publishing authors and any author seeking to traditionally publish that may want to clean up their manuscript before submission.

Manuscripts I do a developmental edit/manuscript evaluation for that come back to me within 12 months will receive a 20% discount on line/copy editing services.
